Nigel Turner charging $20 “admission” fee to tourists driving to the Skywalk

According to Protesters decry fee on road leading to Skywalk, mediation was set for Thursday, but I didn’t find any info about the outcome.

In this Tuesday, May 28, 2013 photo provided by the Hualapai tribe, members of the Hualapai tribe protest as a private armed guard collects tolls of $20.00 per person and up to $500.00 per tour bus on the Diamond Bar Road checkpoint leading to the Grand Cayon Skywalk in Meadview, Nev. Land owner Nigel Turner recently set up a checkpoint and started charging tourists driving through his ranch to get to the Grand Canyon Skywalk, which he calls an admission fee. While the fee includes access to an hourly rodeo show and other ranch activities, the Hualapai Indian tribe - which operates the Skywalk - says the fee is unethical and potentially illegal. I really don’t understand why you can charge a toll for a road that’s been used by the public “forever.” And what about the people who live and work up there?

While I think a toll should be charged, it should be a lot lower and per vehicle as opposed to per person and it should go to the government to recover the cost of paving Diamond Bar.

I heard that the new paved road will go around Nigel’s Grand Canyon West Ranch and it sure looks like Nigel is just out to make a ton of money until the road is finished.
