UPDATED below with Jean Bishop’s 8/10/20 reply
Emailed to Supervisor Jean Bishop on 7/29/20:
Dear Supervisor Bishop:
Today I spoke with reps for the Lake Mead City Water Co-op and Unisource as our wells are constantly shutting down due to power issues.
We live like in a developing country, or a “shithole country”, as President Trump would say.
Please IMMEDIATELY enact a building moratorium for Meadview.
No permits for construction of homes or setup of mobiles until we KNOW with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY that we have the infrastructure and resources to ensure that residents are able to SURVIVE here.
1) We need to be certain that we have sufficient power for the residents and the wells.
2) We need to be certain that we have sufficient water in our aquifer. I’ve heard that our aquifer is losing a foot per year, is this true?
When my friend Leo died in his camper, he lived off-grid by choice. He was old, had brain damage, overestimated his resilience and he didn’t realize that he would NOT get any medical assistance and would be left to die alone. KRMC deliberately left him to die, refused to readmit him, knowing that he had diarrhea, no running water, to electric, no cooling — during a heatwave in July.
Leo Goding 12/2/42 to 7/30/2015
To my knowledge, KRMC still kicks traumatized and injured seniors out of the ER in the middle of the night — whether they are able to pay the cab fare or not — even when they live alone 60 miles from Kingman and are seriously injured.
Due to the lack of medical services, a dysfunctional fire district, and HOURS to wait for medical assistance, IF an ambulance is available, it is even more important that we have reliable power and water supply.
Most residents rely on power and water to run their swamp coolers and A/Cs. It’s frequently over 100F. When I lived in my mobile and didn’t have the swamp cooler running, it was often so hot in the afternoon that my computer would not start up.
It’s election time and an excellent opportunity to find out what our elected representatives are doing or NOT doing for us.
- It took FOUR years to fix the washout in Meadview at Sandy Point. Four YEARS, not months.
So I’ll appreciate your immediate action on the issues and I request that you inform us about the actions you have taken and will take to ensure the survival of the elderly and poor in your district.
Until those issues are properly addressed, please immediately enact a moratorium for building and mobile home permits in the Meadview area.
Sincerely,
Christine Baker
Supervisor Bishop’s 8/10/20 reply:
Good morning Ms. Baker
I have been in contact with Mohave County Development Services Department as well as the County Attorney regarding your request to “immediately enact a building moratorium for Meadview”.
The information received is that a moratorium on development and use of land is extremely disfavored as a restraint on property rights and is intended to be temporary in duration (180 days) while the root of the problem is being resolved.
It is also my understanding that UniSource is aware of the situation and has been working to resolve the problem temporarily as they work on a permanent solution to increase the electrical capacity.
Respectfully,
Jean Bishop

My 8/12/20 followup questions:
Thank you for your reply, Ms. Bishop.
> The information received is that a moratorium on development and
> use of land is extremely disfavored as a restraint on property rights
Who provided this information?
Who is stating that property rights are more important than human lives?
WHO makes policy in Mohave County?
Much appreciate clarification!
Christine Baker
Supervisor Jean Bishop’s 8/12/2 terse reply:
Ms. Baker,
If you have specific questions regarding this subject, please feel free to contact Deputy County Attorney Robert Taylor.
Regards,
Jean Bishop
I have yet to hear from Jean Bishop, despite emailing and posting the link on Facebook in response to one of her campaign posts.
I did hear from Pete Golden, one of Meadview’s long time residents, loved and admired by many.
Pete hangs with the real estate people, the Annamarie cult (Crows Nest), and he is one of Meadview’s most vocal promoters. According to his FB posts, he seems very concerned with the value of his real estate holdings.
I first met Pete when I joined FB in summer of 2016. He was livid because some poor people had moved onto vacant lots on Meadview Blvd with campers and their presence didn’t exactly increase real estate values.
Pete et al (collectively referred to as the “Meadview Morons”) slandered and defamed them. They falsely accused them of squatting. They filed false complaints with the county.
I know they lied, because I visited those newcomers and ended up speaking to the investor who had sold them the lots. The allegations that they were dumping sewage were also false. Not only did I visit, I personally cleaned up the lots after they moved away.
Yes, the Meadview Morons were successful. They’ve slandered and harassed many residents who disagreed with their elitist agenda until they moved away.
It’s all about presenting Meadview as the paradise it is NOT. People who want to buy real estate are shown the MCA with the pool and shining floors, oh so beautiful and exclusive. They’re handed the Meadview News, published by the Meadview Morons. I’ve never seen anything to address the MANY problems Meadview faces in the Meadview News. It’s nothing but an advertisement for the local real estate people and other businesses. Real estate agent Jonathan Kiser is the assistant editor.
When new residents realize that we have no nurse, no doctor, an ambulance MIGHT show up eventually, or not, no support groups of any kind, no community center, no place to START a support group, or any kind of activities, no food except for the crap they sell at the Family Dollar, not even conventional produce and meat, many move away.
And the real estate people get paid AGAIN.
The Meadview News FAILS to mention the seniors who die alone and neglected, even when they once were part of the cliques.
Joanne died in her house of filth with her countless cats and nobody found her until her body was decomposed. The Schwans delivery guy alerted the sheriff. None of her former friends checked on her.
Posting about this in the FB group “All Things Meadview” got me kicked out! That is how determined the Meadview Morons are to keep anyone from helping the old, sick and poor.
I’ll never unsee the stain where Joanne decomposed, unsmell the stench.
Joanne had dementia, like so many. She lived in a house of filth. Her (former) friends at the VFW are GUILTY.
Unlike Joanne, many seniors never get into the cliques. They move here to enjoy the desert, the solitude. They have no interest in gossip and elitism. And then they get old, sick, their spouses die, and nobody gives a shit how they live and die.
Just like Pete Golden doesn’t give a shit that seniors might run out of water for the swamp coolers, that they might die like Leo:

You’re a heartless selfish bastard, Pete!
You can see Pete’s vile comments in response to my link to this post calling for a building moratorium at https://www.facebook.com/groups/meadview/?post_id=567956853875090
“Christine Baker
Not only ponderous but comic.. Not unlike when you accused me and a couple of my friends of being a wealthy cult feeding off the backs of the poor. Again comic.. and a sadly pathetic..”
“Christine Baker
Care! You have no clue what I’ve done for some people around here down on there luck, I keep that to myself. I guess I could call you a Dumb Bitch here but I won’t. We’re done, and don’t you ever mention my name in any of your posts or any of your other baseless rants.”
